The photographic series depicts unfinished hotel resorts in Sinai, Egypt. Over a period of several years, these hotel sites, planned as status bearers, have turned out to be investment ruins of state-funded tourism projects. Many of the building projects will never be completed. The sculptural shells point to one of the consequences of a tourist industry that encourages uncontrolled urban development of whole landscapes and, against the backdrop of current political developments, amounts to a socio-political fuse. In their promise of holiday idylls, the names of hotel chains, which the artists have adopted for their titles, jar with discrepancy against the abandoned concrete skeletons in the pictures. = Die Fotoserie zeigt unvollendet gebliebene Luxushotel-Anlagen im Sinai. Die streng komponierten Fotografien lassen die Bauwerke wie Architekturmodelle erscheinen, deren purifizierte, von allem Dekor befreite Formensprache die funktionale Planung sichtbar macht. Der globale Massentourismus findet in diesem Formenschatz der Weltarchitektur, der von der chinesischen Pagode, dem antiken Tempel bis zur europäischen Moderne reicht, seine Entsprechung. In dem unfertigen Zwischenzustand der Hotelanlagen sind die Mechanismen der Inszenierung von touristischen Traumwelten deutlich ablesbar. "Sinai Hotels" steht exemplarisch für eine Entwicklung des Tourismus, bei der die Reiseziele eine fast willkürliche Austauschbarkeit bekommen und eine gewachsene räumliche Signifikanz einbüßen.
